Don's art journey came about quit unintentionally and very long ago.  Don was raised around art since he was a young child because his mother, Alma Christine Houser McKinney was an artist but he never considered himself an artist.  He didn't even know he had the ability to achieve such fetes as an artist until he began to be approached by strangers, as they asked to purchase his TRASH!!!

 

It all started when he worked in a particular department store where no budget for cleaning supplies was made for his area, the paint department.  In order to provide for the proper materials needed to care for the paint area, paint machines and overall for the customers finished paint product. 

 

and was ONLY Given Old Price Tag Inserts to be thrown away, often times being told to get them from the TRASH & the Few Paper Towels he would gather on each restroom break that he used to clean the paint machines, in order to keep them from gumming up.
 

Don was always taught to go above and beyond and in good conscious, he could not halfway do any job so he set out to find a way to care for his area at no cost to the store

 

and backings of old price tag sings and so began the creating of Pappy's Pieces.  

 

Taking nothing and creating something while doing his job of cleaning paint machines.
